The purpose of the youth group is, by God's grace, to serve the youth by encouraging spiritual growth, strengthening relationships within the church, and providing opportunities for community service. Its goal is not to take the place of parental or church teaching but to build on the foundation already laid by them.
We meet every other Lord's Day at 4pm for Bible, book, or topical study. Last year we studied Focus on the Family's The Truth Project, and currently we are studying I Peter and inviting a variety of guests to come speak on relevant topics. We also strive to provide more personalized mentoring and discipleship outside of those regular meetings.
Our bi-weekly singalongs have helped to promote friendships between the kids and encourage the involvement of families within the congregation. We also try to plan regular activities like gym nights, game nights, or field trips to let the kids have some fun while getting to know each other and the leaders better.
On the practical side of things, there is an annual mission trip out of state to help work on the homes of extremely poor people with established mission organizations. We also plan regular local projects assisting families in our church's neighborhood or volunteering for organizations like Mel Trotter and the Pregnancy Resource Center. And the kids bless members of the congregation if they are in need of help.
Youth Group meets downstairs in our church.
